It has been pointed out to me that one of the ‘Wheel Bearings’ tips in the December 2010 / January issue of Minor Moments could be rather hazardous.
Tip 5 stated ‘you may also want to use a compressor to blow out any brake dust’.
Andy Hammond says: ‘THIS IS A BIG NO NO! Old brake shoes have asbestos in them, and the dust in the newer type probably isn’t good for you either. Especially if you’re doing this in your garage with the door shut. Barely acceptable in the driveway. The approved method is a soft brush (old paint brush) with a face mask on.’
Thanks for the update Andy.
I’ve just added an online membership form.

Added the next couple of months of Events Calendar for our Club Runs and other car events that we’ve been made aware of.
Also added Aug 2010 issue of our Magazine. Club members can watch their letter boxes for the new Oct/Nov issue which should arrive later this week.
We’ve just had an update regarding the quiz night – still the same time and place:
Saturday 28 Aug, Papanui Working Men’s Club, dinner at 6pm, quiz starts at 7:30pm in the Manuka rooms.
In addition to the optional meal prior to the quiz all attendees are asked to bring a plate for supper. The Morris Owners Club have been granted permission to take food to the club which will be eaten in a private function room after the quiz.
Let’s see if we can win the trophy a second year running 🙂
I’m just back from helping the team put the display together for this year’s classic car show and I have to say it is looking fantastic.
Dave McQueen has spent hours and hours hand painting the morrie speedo backdrop and the final result is stunning. Well done Dave! The theme for our display is the first and last Morris Minors sold in NZ (and still on the road). We have a 1949 lowlight and a 1970 4-door saloon, both in excellent condition.
The speedo backdrop has the 1949 lowlight connected to the 49mph of the speedo and the 1970 saloon connected to the 70mph on the speedo.
For a sneak peek head over to the photos section to see the team assembling the display. Unfortunately my photos don’t really do Dave’s work justice so my advise is to head to Pioneer Stadium over the weekend and have a good look yourself.
June/July 2010 magazine has been added to the Club Magazines section. If you are a Club member then the printed copy of the new issue, Aug/Sept 2010, will be in your mail box in the next few days.
…also added many more events to the Events Calendar.
