Overview

We’ll be taking the back-roads; Darfield, Rakaia Gorge, Methven through to Tinwald for a BYO lunch (or a nearby café if wet)

Martin Perry has then kindly agreed to open up his garage, car collection and parts shed (good source of MM Spares) in Hinds.

Then we are off to the Ashburton Aviation Museum (the new home of the Southern DC3).

Count me in!

Details

9.00 – 9.30am RV at the Yaldhurst Hotel car park

9.30am  prompt departure driving Darfield, inland scenic route through Glentunnel to Rakaia Gorge bridge, Methven, Ashburton, SH1 to Tinwald Reserve for lunch stop.

Any Ashburton members interested in this run can meet us here.

12:30pm we need to be on the road again to Hinds Motors where Martin Perry is opening up specially for us!

1:30pm back north on SH1 to the Ashburton Aviation Museum, 4 Seafold Street. Entry here costs $5 per head.

Return to Christchurch under own arrangements

All roads are sealed (according to the map). Total distance for all activities is about 250km – bring a full tank of petrol.

Important Notes

As Martin Perry has kindly opened his garage specially for us it would be fantastic to get as many members on this outing as possible (Morrie or modern car) to make it worth Martin’s time.

The is a really good opportunity for club members who haven’t been on an outing for some time and for new members to join in on an activity.

If your Morrie is off the road then bring your modern car.

The destinations (Hinds and the Aviation Museum) are indoors so this Morrie run will still be happening if wet.

As noted in the last magazine, this run has had to be modified a little as the mini golf area at Stewarts Gully is no longer available since the February earthquake. The new details are as follows:

We will be meeting at the Belfast Hotel (The Peg, State Highway 1 just before the motorway) at 10:00am for 10:30 start. Doing a run through North Canterbury before heading back to town and finishing at the Morris 8 Club rooms for lunch (bring your own). The fun golf challenge this year will be a little different. Bring a pen!

The current weather forecast is ideal.

Autovia Classic Car Show and Inter-marque Concours (will be back at Pioneer Stadium) 18th and 19th August 2012.

VCC Swap Meet (Back to the 3-day format next year). Friday 12th to Sunday 14th Ocotber 2012

Canterbury All British Day – Sunday 28th October, leaving from VCC grounds McLeans Island at 10.00am

Also note the addition of the Autovia Classic Car Display on Nov 20. This is normally held in August at the Pioneer Stadium.
